| Opening a Fabricating Company |

Garland and Bobby worked in their garage at night while continuing their day positions. Sacrifices were made as they mastered their trade. However, they continued to believe in each other and in 1966, S & S Metal and Plastics was incorporated and became the premier custom fabricating company of the area. As the company prospered, they relocated into a large modern shop in 1975. Today, S&S employs 35 highly trained personnel using the most cutting-edge equipment in the sheet metal and plastic fabrication industry.
S & S Metal and Plastics was founded by Garland and Bobby Strickland in 1960 in their 2-car garage with Garland the oldest of 4 siblings and Bobby the youngest. Their family moved to Jacksonville, Florida, from North Carolina in the 1930s. At 17, Garland was employed by Miller Electric Company and then enlisted into the United States Army during World War ll. After his return from the war, he returned to Miller for 21 years. At 17, Bobby was employed by Jacksonville Shipyards for 20 years.
